Question... We have spent a lot of time and attention on 'Predestination' and 'Salvation' yet no one has commented on 'Essentials of Christianity'!! Is that interesting?
Why do we love to discuss questions that may or may not influence us in the now (other than 'knowing') yet when it comes to talking about living lives like Jesus (things that we're commanded to do and if put into action now we will impact this world for God), we have no thoughts!!
Challange... Help us discuss what it looks like to have a life that passionately pursues Jesus!!

Perhaps because the essentials of being a Christian are more "obvious" than that really sticky predestination topic.
ReplyDeleteLove Christ, love others; obey God to the best of your ability as his will is revealed in scripture.
I think that sort of sums up essential Christian-ness. Now, if only it were as easy to do as it is to state... :p
Regarding the poor- (1 John 3:17)- But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
(truthfully, I think this passage is referring to Christians taking care of Christians in need, but I see this as a potential point of broader application)
I think it is inevitable that a Christian will serve in some way shape or form- if they believe that what they believe is really real their actions will manifest that belief which leads to serving the needy or the poor.
